The government needs to plan the afforestation of available public land, and give incentives to those who plant more trees in their uncultivated fields. Malta needs more trees (especially indigenous) and green spaces.
I'm disgusted either seeing empty spaces or dead trees for years in roundabout areas and it seems neither the local council nor ELC cares about it. Siggiewi is an example.
We should make use of every corner of our countryside to stop the speculation of land in the countryside. We should fill our hills and valleys with olive trees or vineyards and our valleys with citrus, mulberry and pomegranate trees. We should encourage the production of Maltese olives and olive oil and other products from the trees that we can grow all around the island. Help the farmers and encourage entrepreneurs to establish a flourishing local food industry.
